MIAMI (Ekstra Bladet): There were smiles and tears at the airport when, at eight o'clock in the evening local time, Camilla Broe came out of the elevator as a free woman. Broe was accompanied by the Danish consul in Miami, Jon Rosenthal, who had worked all day with the authorities to get the 43-year-old woman freed.
Girlfriends Gitte Rose and Christine Stenvik stood ready at the airport as a reception committee with Ekstra Bladet, the only media present at the emotional moment when the women were reunited in freedom.
Shall we take her?
"I am happy and relieved," said Camilla Broe, wearing a gray jogging suit from FDC Miami, where she has been incarcerated since the historic extradition on September 4th.
"And now I just want to get home to my daughter as soon as possible," she said, explaining that she still does not know when she will get a flight to Denmark.
The plan was really that Broe would already be on a plane on Friday evening, but it proved impossible, because there were no seats available on flights departing to Europe.
Therefore, a smiling Jon Rosenthal says "here you are" to Gitte Rose and Christine Stenvik, who had difficulty understanding that their girlfriend is free.
"Shall we take her home?" asked Rose, and continued: "We will do that happily."
Crocheting to bring home
Just a few hours before her release Camilla Broe had given up hope of getting out before the weekend. After a long day of uncertainty, she was returned to her cell at 15.30 Danish time. But early in the evening there was a knock on the door, and a prison guard told her that she was being released.
Then Broe packed her few belongings together in a cardboard box. Among other things, all the crocheting she has spent time making behind bars.
"You can see that I have been productive, no?" she asked, smiling big Ekstra Bladet reported before she and her two friends took the escalator out of the airport and walked to the parking garage.
From there she went to Fort Lauderdale, where Camilla is looking forward to be the first to take a shower and get her own clothes.
