Hip-hop star faces June trial
MIAMI — Hip-hop star Juvenile could be singing the prison blues for allegedly attacking a man during a brawl at a Miami nightclub.
Juvenile, whose real name is Terius Gray, known for his hits "Back that Ass Up" and "Ha," is scheduled to go on trial June 3 on felony charges for allegedly knocking out club goer Jackson Saintagne.
Gray, 27, allegedly whacked Saintagne, 28, over the head with a champagne bottle during a confrontation outside a comedy club on March 28, 2001. In the ensuing melee, Gray allegedly grabbed a police sergeant and yelled profanities, according to reports. He allegedly told the officer, "Take me to jail."
The officers complied and charged Gray with two felonies, aggravated battery with a bottle and battery on a police officer. Gray also faces two misdemeanor charges, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest without violence.
"He (Gray) is not guilty and looks forward to his day in court where he is confident he will be vindicated by a jury," defense attorney Jonathan Rosenthal said.
Saintagne also has sued Gray for $5 million in damages. The case is pending and no trial date has been set.
